    WeitereTherapien

    Urethral reconstruction using oral mucosa

    Advantages (+):

    • - very good healing chances

    Disadvantages (-):

    • - large scale extraction of oral mucosa
    • - often scar tissue in the mouth
    • - can limit the flexibility of the lower lip,
    • - can lead to numbness in the oral, cheek and lip region,
    • - can lead to changes in facial expression or problems with speaking and drinking,
    • - can lead to increased salivation
    • - prolonged time of surgery due to two surgical procedures on the urethra and the mouth,
    • - risk of damage to the front of the salivary glands
    • - in case of relapse there is not enough oral mucosa tissue left, or oral mucosa needs to be extracted from the already scared / injured oral cavity
    • - the procedure has not been tested with independent, prospective studies
    • - many doctors lack the skills for oral surgery, urologists usually do not receive training for surgeries in the oral area.

    methode3

    Urethral dilation
    Urethral sounding

    Advantages (+):

    • - possibility for outpatient treatment without anesthesia

    Disadvantages (-):

    • - very high probability for relapse and complications
    • - the procedure requires regular repetitions
    • - repeat procedures worsen the clinical picture and lead to long stretches of strictures
    • - long-term healing chances get worse with every procedure

    Methode4

    Incision of the urethra (urethrotomy)

    Advantages (+):

    • - simple procedure
    • - ater first-time appearance of the disease this procedure is indicated

    Disadvantages (-):

    • - probability for relapse lies with 70 % - 100 %,
    • - every incision in the scarred urethra will lead to a new scar with another stricture which in turn leads to even longer and bigger scarring,
    • - it will be more and more difficult to create a tube / an opening for the urine flow with scarred tissue,
    • - the clinical picture gets worse with every procedure
    • - repeat incisions can lead to irreversible damage of the urethra.
